yes! In our league (the Standard Platform League), everybody uses the same robot model (the NAO), even though we do have to buy them ourselves. So our focus really is purely on the code, we also can't modify the NAOs in any way

oh thanks for pointing that out, you're right! There 'second goal' of the first half was invalid because of a violation of the 'Indirect Kick Rule", where two robots of a team need to touch the ball before scoring a goal. We'll fix our script for the score cards, sorry about the confusion! The proper result is 3:0 (1:0)

Hi there! As you can see, our NAOs are still a little shaky on their feet so they tend to fall over (and over each other) a lot. They can seriously damage themselves that way so especially during the group phase we try to play with fewer robots - we need a full team for the main rounds! Fewer robots on the field also means that the risk for major group crashes (which are really dangerous!) is much lower. There is also a NAO clinic on site at the RoboCup and even though they are working basically around the clock, usually they can only manage to do over-night repairs which can be a problem if you're running out of robots to play with.

@@HTWK.Robots The B-Human robots seem to fall over a lot less often, and also seem to be better at sitting up reliably when they get knocked onto their backs.

unfortunately, we can't take credit for that, the teams just provide the software, we get the robots from Aldebaran Robotics - that way, every team has identical robots and we can focus on the code

Robocup rules are usually that all robots need to be fully autonomous during play.

that's right! we program the robots to solve all problems on their own (at least that's the idea, haha): vision, hearing whistle signals, walking, getting back up after a fall, kicking, communication, strategy - and more!
